The Indian Journal of Medical and Paediatric Oncology (IJMPO) is an international journal published by Thieme Medical Publishers on behalf of the Indian Society of Medical and Paediatric Oncology (ISMPO). Over more than four decades, the journal has strived to contribute to the academic discourse surrounding all aspects of oncology.

This year, under the leadership of Guest Editor (of the current issue) Dr. Abhishek Mahajan and Editor-in-Chief Dr. Padmaj Kulkarni, IJMPO strives to continue its mission of advancing the knowledge and understanding of oncology. The idea of having an exclusive edition dedicated to imaging guidelines in oncology was conceived by Dr. Abhishek Mahajan, Consultant Radiologist at Clatterbridge Cancer Centre, Liverpool, United Kingdom, and ex-Consultant Radiologist at Tata Memorial Hospital, Mumbai, Maharashtra, India, having more than 15 years of experience in oncoimaging, with the aim of providing a comprehensive one-stop reference guide to the clinicians and radiologists alike on practical aspects of site-specific imaging in oncology. We express personal gratitude to associate editors Dr. Nivedita Chakrabarty and Dr. Jinita Majithia for the effort and extra time you both have contributed toward this special edition.

This special issue offers themed content with an important focus on imaging. This themed issue covers “Imaging Guidelines in Oncology” from authoritative and recognized oncology groups and societies, aimed at providing scientific statements on various tumors relevant to diagnosis, staging, and management. The thought behind this composite theme was to have a concise and simplified overview of various cancers and what a radiologist must know about the imaging in cancer. Our aim is to present a diverse selection of stimulating articles.

The authors have devoted countless hours in trying to bring forward well-researched and eloquent articles. Each author has delved into the details of site-specific cancers with focus on global and national epidemiology, the risk factor and etiopathogenesis as well as clinical and diagnostic workup. Elaborate discussions on the imaging guidelines regarding screening, diagnosis, staging and surveillance, and follow-up have been presented. A summary of recommendations and synoptic reporting templates have been provided at the end of each article so as to follow standard guidelines throughout. The content has been double-blind peer reviewed by experts in the field.

It is the undying support of our esteemed authors, round-the-clock hard work of the editorial staff, and the keen interest of the readers that have helped IJMPO to successfully contribute to this issue. And it is this continued involvement and contribution by all that will help us strive better each time for our medical fraternity.
